Deducible
What it means
A deductible (Spanish: deducible) is the amount the homeowner pays out of pocket on a claim. The insurer pays the covered damage minus the deductible. Many Texas policies have a separate wind and hail deductible calculated as a percentage of the home's insured value.
Example with numbers
If the home is insured for $300,000 and the wind and hail deductible is 2%, the homeowner pays the first $6,000 of the claim. If the new roof costs $14,000, insurance would pay up to $8,000, before any depreciation.
In Texas, offering to pay or waive a customer's deductible is not allowed. Never promise it on the phone.
